ACCC Consumer Credit is not a credit consolidation or settlement service; however, it is a non-profit organization that provides low cost credit counseling, reverse mortgage counseling, bankruptcy counseling, debt management programs and educational workshops to the community. Founded in 1991, ACCC Consumer Credit is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and is a member of the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling and the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association®. In addition, ACCC Consumer Credit is actively involved in providing consumers free access to financial, housing and budgeting resources as part of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling programs.

We found that while ACCC Consumer Credit does not offer debt settlement or consolidation, they do have a wealth of knowledge and resources available to consumers who are facing overwhelming financial issues such as credit card debt, poor money management, and housing challenges. Their workshops give consumers a chance to explore all the programs available to them before jumping into a costly bankruptcy or foreclosure. And unlike some of the other credit counseling and debt consolidation programs here, ACCC Consumer Credit provides resources for older Americans who wish to set up reverse mortgages to cash in on the value of their homes.

While the ACCC Consumer Credit has a great deal of information and resources available to consumers, it was lacking in that it does not have an online community or a search option. But the pages are easy to tab through, all links are working and we found it easy to navigate through the aesthetically pleasing website to find what we were looking for. The main home page gives consumers the option of choosing from their three main services: bankruptcy counseling, reverse mortgage counseling and housing counseling. Upon digging deeper, we also found that ACCC Consumer Credit also provides self-managed debt management programs and credit counseling to help people get out of debt and stay out of debt for the long-term.

We recommend ACCC Consumer Credit for anyone who is possibly worried about losing his or her home or having trouble paying down credit card debt. There are many free and low cost services available, so it is not a one-size-fits-all scenario at ACCC Consumer Credit. You will most likely find programs that you will be able to handle on your own.
